INFOGRAPHIC – How severe can the lack of automation and data use be in the logistics procurement cycles of global manufacturers, retailers, and logistics service providers?

In 2016, shippers and LSP’s are still not shifting towards the use of freight sourcing technology on a large scale. Despite a broader availability of (dedicated) procurement tools and software, and a broader understanding of them.

In this article (+ infographic), we are trying to unravel why. Why do we cling on to manual or spreadsheet-based procurement practices?

What is Logistics E-Procurement or procurement automation exactly?

What important is it understand, is that the implementation of procurement technology does not mean the expulsion of all human interaction. Instead, automated procurement means a company is employing a substantial amount of technology to support its transportation buying process, allowing staff to interact where necessary to solve problems and optimize the process.

In this infographic, we have gathered data from multiple resources to investigate how transportation procurement fits within companies. What are the factors holding technology adoption back? Are there key area’s to focus on? What transportation mode requires automation the most? And what are the procurement pain points Logistics professionals must address in 2017?

Shippers and E-Procurement automation

Transportation is of vital importance to retailing and manufacturers. According to almost 75% of retailers, transportation plays a critical part in their companies’ omni-channel strategy. Freight Procurement is a periodic and returning process multiple times per year, often for multiple transportation modes. But the way shipper approach carriers during tendertool.ahabr.tech processes leave much room for improvement. In this infographic, we address procurement pain points that shippers can address with E-procurement automation in 2017.

LSP’s and E-procurement automation

Carriers and global freight forwarders need to distribute the tendertool.ahabr.techs they receive throughout the organization. Since LSP’s easily receive hundreds of tendertool.ahabr.techs on an annual basis, this ‘big burden’ for LSP’s will touch the surface during the upcoming years.

Next to that, Logistics Service providers are challenges to improve the overall procurement process. Therefore, to manage and respond to as many Transportation Tenders, they must work closely together with shippers. Whom from their perspective must focus on making their tendertool.ahabr.techs more carrier-friendly and efficient. The infographic takes this subject into account along the road.
